Central American Brewing Workshop Series

We're excited to announce our new workshop series focused on traditional Central American brewing methods! Starting in June 2025, we'll be hosting monthly workshops where you can learn how to prepare coffee using techniques that have been passed down through generations in El Salvador and Guatemala.

Workshop Schedule

Each workshop will focus on a different brewing method and will include a brief history of the technique, a demonstration, hands-on practice, and of course, plenty of coffee tasting.

  • June 14, 2025: Café de Olla - Traditional Mexican and Guatemalan clay pot brewing with cinnamon and piloncillo sugar
  • July 12, 2025: Chorreador - Costa Rican sock brewing method that's also popular in El Salvador
  • August 9, 2025: Café con Leche - The art of perfectly balanced coffee with milk, Central American style
  • September 13, 2025: Cold Brew Techniques - Traditional and modern methods for cold coffee preparation

Workshop Details

Location: Tz'ikin Cafe Kensington, 4200 Howard Ave

Time: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Cost: $45 per workshop or $160 for all four sessions

Group Size: Limited to 8 participants to ensure a personalized experience

Reservation Information

Reservations are required and can be made through our website or in person at any of our locations. A 50% deposit is required to secure your spot, with the balance due on the day of the workshop.

About the Instructor

All workshops will be led by our head barista, Maria Hernandez, who grew up in El Salvador and learned traditional brewing methods from her grandmother. Maria has been with Tz'ikin Cafe since our opening and has over 15 years of experience in specialty coffee.
